Post 7- Apple losing smartphone war?
I just read an interesting article about Apple potentially losing the smartphone war. The article discussed Apple's lack of innovating changes made to the original iPhone that was released in 2007, citing a slightly lighter phone, bigger screen, and Siri as the most revolutionizing updates, which, according to the author, are very limited advances, and he claims that Samsung with the Galaxy S III has shot right past Apple. Among other reasons, bigger screens are an important priority for smartphone users and according to the author, the iPhone 5 doesn't quite cut it, and unless they make bigger screens, he thinks Apple will lose the smartphone war. Article is right here: http://www.itwire.com/opinion-and-analysis/beerfiles/58739-apple-has-already-lost-the-smartphone-war

Basically, Apple needs another Steve Jobs. Samsung is catching up with Apple, and eventually will exceed Apple if Apple does not "wow" its customers soon. Like what Professor Lavian said in class before that one day everyone is going to use the smartphones Samsung produced instead of iPhones. Apple needs a new product or a new feature that can "wow" the customers soon, or I think Apple is definitely going to lose at the smartphone war in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI agree - Besides the iPhone, Apple hasn't really come out with anything interesting since the original. Android and now even Windows Phone have different phones that all work with the same OS.
ReplyDeleteGood points. If Apple does indeed lose the smartphone war, I wonder what's next for them. Steve Jobs was the visionary that propelled them into the smartphone market when it hadn't existed before-- will Tim Cook be the guy to make this move with a new product that was as groundbreaking as the iPhone or iPad? It is interesting to see both sides of the argument--some people think Apple will never fail, while others are betting on it– ultimately, only time will tell what happens, but I am excited to see how this smartphone war plays out and how patents and intellectual property will affect this battle.
